Arc Flash PPE
Arc flash PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is the protective gear worn by electrical workers to reduce injury if an arc flash occurs. An arc flash is a sudden release of electrical energy through the air when there’s a fault in energized equipment and it can cause extreme heat (up to 35,000°F / 19,400°C), intense light and sound, pressure waves and flying molten metal. Arc flash PPE protects workers and includes Arc-rated clothing (shirts, pants, coveralls or suits), Arc flash face shield or hood, hard hats, voltage-rated rubber gloves with leather protectors, safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection (earplugs) and leather or dielectric footwear.
